On Tuesday (8 Sept), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spent more than four hours putting out a fire that broke out in a warehouse in Jurong.
Footage of the blaze posted on TikTok showed a large, thick black plume of smoke from a block in nearby Teban Gardens.

In its first Facebook post on the fire, SCDF said it was alerted at about 12pm.
SCDF deployed resources to 10 Penjuru Road for the firefighting operation.
Its next post at 1.26pm said the fire was confined to a warehouse within the premises, with four water jets and a firefighting machine being used.

About 50 people self-evacuated from the warehouse before SCDF arrived, it said.
Social media photos showed a crowd standing on the roadside, watching firefighters doing their work.

No injuries were reported, SCDF added.
In an update less than 30 minutes later, SCDF said its firefighters were working with one more water jet, making it five water jets and a firefighting machine.
It also revealed that used household items stored in a 20m by 10m warehouse caused the fire.
Footage depicted various charred and smoking items laid out on the premises as firefighters continued their work.

In its final update at 4.06 pm, SCDF said firefighters had largely extinguished the fire, though some “deep-seated pockets of fire” remained.

Damping-down operations — the application of water to wet burnt surfaces — were expected to continue throughout the day.
This is to prevent the fire from rekindling due to the hot burnt surfaces.
