Last week, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) experienced an unexpected tragedy with one of their Covid-19 patients.
Mr Alagu Periyakarrupan – a 46-year-old migrant worker – was found motionless at the bottom of a staircase and pronounced dead shortly after. He was his family’s sole breadwinner.
Social enterprise group ItsRainingRaincoats took to Facebook to express their condolences for the late Mr Periyakarrupan’s mourning family.
Mr Periyakarrupan was the sole breadwinner of his family.
According to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in their statement regarding his death, he had worked in Singapore since Sep 2009, providing for his family for nearly 11 years.
He leaves behind 3 daughters who are still schooling, his wife as well as her parents, reported Channel NewsAsia (CNA).
His eldest daughter is her class’s top student, and a spokesperson from ItsRainingRaincoats expressed that they hoped she receives ample support to complete her education in 5 years.
The loss of income resulting from his death will hit his family extremely hard.
ItsRainingRaincoats mentioned that they had sent some friends down to check on Mr Periyakarrupan’s family and to deliver some rations to them.
They are in contact with his family, and are doing what they can to help them manage their loss.
MOM said in their statement that they are working with the Hindu Endowments Board to undertake the necessary funeral arrangements for Mr Periyakarrupan.
They’ve also assured that they will support his family as well, together with the Migrant Workers’ Centre.
They are likewise extending similar assistance to the family of the late Mr Subbiah Sivasankar, a 37-year-old who died from a blood clot in his lung on 22 Apr.
We sincerely thank Mr Periyakarrupan and Mr Sivasankar for their contributions to Singapore during their time here.
Investigations are still ongoing for Mr Periyakarrupan’s death, though at the moment murder has been ruled out.
Hopefully, his family receives ample support to get through this difficult time and can sort out their finances too.
