Lawrence Wong Will Play Male Lead In Late Actor Aloysius Pang’s Drama

In the series, Wong will play a character who develops body odour when he falls for a girl.

Aloysius Pang will be dearly missed

Mediacorp actor Aloysius Pang recently passed away from a tragic accident during his reservist in New Zealand.

Aloysius had mentioned he was keen to resume filming after recovering while nursing in a New Zealand hospital.

Unfortunately his condition eventually worsened and led to his demise.

As Singaporeans wept during his very public wake at MacPherson, a caveat has been left in the local entertainment scene.

While Aloysius Pang can never be replaced, Wong is a worthy talent that has gained fans beyond the shores of Singapore.

The birth of a post-Yanxi Palace superstar

Johor-born, Singaporean Lawrence Wong struggled as an actor here, but his breakout role came when he starred as a carefree, lovelorn guard in China’s hit TV series The Story Of Yanxi Palace.

Unfortunately, the show has been pulled from Chinese television due to its profligate values.

However, that has not put a damper on his popularity. He currently boasts 2.9 million followers on Weibo — the number was Singapore’s population at some point.

Recently, he joined fellow Yanxi alumni actors Qin Lan and Xu Kai on a popular China Chinese New Year TV programme. They belted out Yanxi Palace’s theme song The Sound Of Snow Falling.

This was the reunion dinner Yanxi fans lived for. Many left positive comments and heart emojis on Lawrence Wong’s Instagram and Weibo accounts as proof of his continued popularity.

Despite his enormous overseas fandom, Wong expresses his loyalty to where he calls home, Singapore.

Wishes to support local entertainment scene

Wong explains in an interview with Channel 8,

This is my own way of contributing to and supporting the local entertainment scene.

He elaborates that even though he has found success overseas, he is happy to act in local productions if there is a good script and role.

Soon, we can look forward to admire his beautiful brows without being distracted by the Manchurian haircut. Hopefully, he successfully finds love this time around.
