While PM Wong is currently an MP for Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC, he holds a special connection to the Marine Parade area.
“I grew up in this neighbourhood, so it was heartening to see many familiar stalls and shops,” he wrote on the Facebook post.
He felt that it brought back many fond memories.

PM Wong previously stated that his parents were proud to own a brand-new HDB flat in Marine Parade, newly reclaimed from the sea.
“It cost them what was then a princely sum of S$30,000.”

He attended Haig Boys’ Primary School, which used to be located nearby at 25 Jalan Tembusu.
In a 2024 video, he recalled that the residents who moved from kampongs into Marine Parade rekindled the “kampung spirit” in their new homes.
“This story of Marine Parade is really the story of all of Singapore,” he said.
PM Wong reflected after his recent visit, noting that Marine Parade has changed over the years.
