‘My life is on a loop’: S’pore employee seeks advice on how to ‘psych’ themselves up for work

Burnt-out Singapore employee says life feels ‘on a loop’, gets advice on how to cope

A Singapore-based Redditor has resonated with many online after sharing their struggle with burnout, describing daily life as feeling like it is “on a loop”.

In a post on r/askSingapore on 16 April, the Original Poster (OP) asked how others “psych” themselves up to go to work each day.

“Seriously, commuting to work and surviving the 8 hours in office??? I feel that my life is on a loop,” they wrote.

Too exhausted for anything at end of day

The OP added that exhaustion has taken over their daily routine.

“By the time I reach home, I am just simply too tired to pursue anything — even sending out resumes.”

Despite feeling burnt out, they felt that they were unable to leave their job due to the current “horrible” job market.

They described their situation as a dilemma, saying they feel stuck between staying and leaving.

Summing up their situation, the OP said: “Damn if you do, damn if you don’t, IDEK what to do at this point……”

Netizens say they feel the same

The post quickly gained traction, resonating with netizens who shared similar feelings about burnout and work fatigue. Several Redditors also shared their own coping mechanisms.

A netizen urged the OP not to give 100%, reminding them that the company can survive without them.

Another Redditor shared that they would take the “occasional MC” to destress from work.

Another likened their job to a “monthly subscription”, suggesting it helps to view work in more transactional terms.
