A decision made by the management of an apartment in Malaysia has sparked backlash online. It had earlier announced that residents must keep their pets in a cage while using lifts.
According to a Facebook post by the apartment’s management, the rule was created because some residents are afraid of dogs.
“We live in a shared community and need to respect one another. Some residents are afraid of dogs,” read the post that appears to have been removed as of 26 Sept.
“If you bring your pet in the lift, it must be in a cage.”.

The post warned that pets found without a cage will be reported to authorities.
Its owners will likely face a fine and a warning letter as a result.
The apartment in question appears to be Green Garden in Paya Terubong, Penang.

In response to the announcement, netizens were quick to express their dissatisfaction and disagreement with the rule.
One netizen argued that the rule is unnecessary as long as the pets are leashed and “under control”.

They added that residents always have a choice to take the next lift if they are afraid.
Another person criticised the idea, saying that it is unreasonable to expect owners to take their dogs for a walk while carrying a cage.
