Malaysian Cargo Drivers Who Enter Singapore Regularly To Be Offered Vaccination

Even though leisure travels across the Causeway are put on hold, we continue to rely on imports from neighbouring Malaysia to guarantee essential supplies.

To ensure cargo drivers’ safety when delivering essential goods, Singapore will start offering them Covid-19 vaccinations from Mar 2021.

Moreover, with nationwide inoculations well-underway in both Singapore and Malaysia, the Johor government is hopeful to reopen the border this year.

According to a media release, Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) announced the move to vaccinate cargo drivers and accompanying personnel on Monday (8 Mar).

Eligible individuals should travel from Malaysia to Singapore regularly, delivering essential goods.

Starting from later this month (Mar 2021), they’ll receive a customised SMS from the Ministry of Trade and Industry regarding upcoming vaccinations.

They will then be contacted for a vaccination appointment in Singapore.

Covers drivers from both Tuas & Woodlands Checkpoints

The vaccination offer is applicable to cargo drivers and accompanying personnel at both Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints.

This ensures they can carry on delivering essential goods to Singapore safely, according to MOH.

Currently, drivers entering from Malaysia to Singapore will undergo Covid-19 antigen rapid testing, which takes 30mins for a result.

However, those who are not eligible for vaccination can continue to enter Singapore. But they will have to undertake the on-arrival testing.

Johor hopeful to reopen border this year

With vaccination efforts well-underway in both countries, Johor is reportedly ready to welcome Singaporean visitors this year.

According to Malaysia English daily The Star, the Johor government has hopes that the border will reopen this year.
