Based on intelligence provided by the ICA’s Integrated Targeting Centre, officers conducted an enhanced inspection of the vehicle, according to a joint statement from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) issued on Thursday (7 May).

Search led to the discovery of 261g meth and 2kg cannabis

During the search, officers found a backpack in the boot of the car containing a plastic bag and two black bundles concealed under a pair of jeans.

CNB officers later confirmed that the plastic bag was found to contain about 261g of ‘Ice’, while the black bundles contained about 2,261g of cannabis.

The total estimated street value of the drugs seized is over S$71,000, and authorities noted that the amount could have supplied about 470 drug users for a week.

Under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, importing or exporting more than 250g of methamphetamine or over 500g of cannabis can result in the death penalty.

Both the ICA and CNB will maintain their close partnership to block drug smuggling at the borders.

Additionally, ICA remains committed to checking travellers and cargo at checkpoints to prevent weapons, explosives, and other contraband from entering the country.
