On Sunday (3 Nov), a video was shared on Facebook group 50 Shades of Singapore showing a Singaporean man, Samuel, abusing his Pomeranian.
The video that showed the man hitting his dog and torching its fur quickly went viral, garnering tons of hateful comments from angry netizens.
Things got real when Society of Prevention to Cruelty to Animals Singapore (SPCA) intervened and reported the case to the police.
However, on Monday (4 Nov), Samuel made an apology video and uploaded it onto his personal Facebook page.
With his girlfriend as the Thai translator, Samuel started by saying,
Today I’m making this video to apologise for what I’ve done
He then went ahead to clarify that the video he posted of him abusing his Pomeranian was actually from a few months ago. And assured everyone that “today the dog is okay, don’t worry.”
After which, he apologised again saying,
I’m sorry for what I’ve done. I promise this will be the first and the last time
Later in the video, Samuel added that today (4 Nov), he will be surrendering himself to the police.
He also said that he is “ready to face all the punishment” and he hopes that everyone can give him “a second chance and don’t give up on (him)”. Here’s a photo of him at the Thailand police station.
He continued to reassure everyone that he will not do it again.
On Tuesday (5 Nov), Samuel shared that the reason behind his unruly behaviour was that he was ‘sick’ — likely referring to a mental illness.
He shared that he even visited a doctor who confirmed his illness. After which, he promised to go for treatment and take medications as required.
After learning about his medical condition, the once heated comments section is now filled with messages of forgiveness and support.
One netizen encouraged Samuel to not give up on himself.
Another netizen wrote an entire paragraph motivating Samuel to stay in control of his emotions.
Regardless of what he did in the past, we believe that he was sincere in his apology.
SPCA also updated their post adding that Samuel reached out to them and “offered to fully cooperate with the authorities in Thailand.”
After all, everybody makes mistakes, and besides, he did sincerely apologise. So let’s all give Samuel another chance.
