Local new site Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported that incident at around 4pm. Here’s a rough breakdown of what happened.
The video started with a barefooted elderly man, dressed casually in T-shirt and shorts, standing in the middle of the road wielding a hammer.
Disregarding his safety, the man just stood there while buses and cars drove past him.
Moments later, a few policemen arrived at the scene, with their eyes locked on him ready to apprehend.
However, the elderly man was seemingly oblivious to the men in blue’s arrival.
Upon noticing an incoming lorry, he boldly knocked the gigantic vehicle with the hammer.
Once the opportune moment came, police dramatically charged towards the man, successfully pinning him down from the back.
Along with that came 2 passers-by and a few other policemen helping to hold that man down.
Meanwhile, another policeman swiftly directed traffic away from the ruckus.
According to a report by The Straits Times, the 66-year-old man is “believed to be of unsound mind”.
He will be charged Thursday (28 Nov) for committing a rash act endangering lives or the personal safety of others.
Police added that the elderly man will also be sent to the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment. Investigations are still ongoing.
Thankfully, no one was injured. Kudos to our policemen and helpful passers-by for handling the situation so swiftly.
