The Manhattan Fish Market Has Apologised To The Family

In modern society, families can take on many different forms and are not limited to nuclear families which consist of a father, a mother and their children.

This point was highlighted by a Facebook user named Ms Seah, who was told that she and her family were not entitled to a promotion at The Manhattan Fish Market (MFM), simply because their father wasn’t present.

Promotion for mums at MFM

On Wednesday (5 June), Ms Seah and her family visited the MFM’s Changi Airport outlet for a meal before their mother’s flight.

The restaurant had a promotion called “A Date with Mum” which entitles mothers to a free Fish ‘N Chips meal with a main dish purchase.

However, they were allegedly told they weren’t allowed to enjoy the promotion because their “family is not complete.”

This was because,

The father is missing.

Presumably shocked by the encounter

Ms Seah and her family were stunned that the staff considered their family incomplete simply because their father wasn’t there.

In her words,

How is Mom any less deserving just because Dad wasn’t there?

She also points out there’re many different types of families out there, and criticises MFM for not being “inclusive”.

MFM reached out to apologise

Ms Seah later revealed that MFM has reached out to her to apologise for the “utterly disappointing experience”.

Ms Seah claims she does not blame the service crew on duty that day as they’re likely to be merely acting on instructions.

Instead, she demands answers as to how the terms and conditions were drawn up and approved by the management in the first place.

Be accepting of families that are ‘different’

While the experience was uncalled for, it is heartening that MFM has responded promptly and apologised to the family affected.

We also hope that our society today will be more accepting of families that are ‘different’ from the traditional ones we know of.

Because although they may be ‘different’ in terms of their structure, they shower each other with the same amount of love and care, and that is what’s truly important in a family.
