On Monday (30 Mar), Singapore confirmed 35 new Covid-19 cases, with 26 new local cases, bringing the total number of infected people to 879.
We now have 3 new clusters — S11 Dormitory @ Punggol, the Wilby Residences and nightspot Hero’s.
Of the 420 confirmed cases who are still in hospital, many of them are being warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
However, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported that one of the new cases had spent a lot of time at the NCID even before he tested positive for Covid-19.
The Malaysian man, 20, is a Singapore work pass holder, and was in Malaysia from 16 Mar to 17 Mar — the day before his country went on lockdown till 14 Apr.
He works as a porter at the NCID, and reported having symptoms last Saturday (28 Mar).
The porter did not go to work after the symptoms presented, and he tested positive for Covid-19 on 29 Mar.
He is now case 853, and being isolated at a room in his workplace, the NCID.
It’s kind of worrying that a porter who works at the NCID was infected with Covid-19 — we hope that he did not get infected during the course of his work.
The fact that he’s a Malaysian is also troubling — he may not have the support of loved ones who are stuck back home in Malaysia.
We hope he and the other Covid-19 cases recover soon.
