The four new members of the 39th CEC, in alphabetical order by surname, are:

  1. Ms Chan Hui Yuh, former PAP candidate for Aljunied GRC
  2. NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office
  3. Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Home Affairs Sim Ann

They were co-opted when the CEC met on Thursday, it said.

This is the first time that Mr Siow and Ms Chan have joined the CEC, while Mr Ng and Ms Sim were co-opted into the previous CEC.

PAP CEC elected office holders, no changes to key positions

During that meeting, the CEC also elected its office holders, with no changes to the key positions.

Like in the previous CEC, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong remained Secretary-General, while Education Minister Desmond Lee is Chairman.

Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing continued as Assistant Secretary-General, and Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli is still Vice-Chairman.

Taking up the other roles were Health Minister Ong Ye Kung as Treasurer, National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat as Assistant Treasurer, and Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu and Law Minister Edwin Tong as Organising Secretaries.

39th CEC now has 18 members

The recent additions bring the 39th CEC to 18 members, after 12 of them were elected at the PAP Conference on 25 Oct.

Two more CEC members — Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng and Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Zaqy Mohamad — were co-opted on the same day.

They had received the 13th and 14th-highest number of votes respectively.

The PAP Constitution allows up to six members to be co-opted into the CEC.
