Pink Dot 2020 Won’t Be At Hong Lim Park, Supporters Encouraged To Do Light-Up At Home

Pink Dot 2020 Will Be Livestreamed Amid Covid-19, Won’t Be At Hong Lim Park

Large events are being cancelled left and right as part of Covid-19 containment measures, and Pink Dot is the latest to be affected.

Pink Dot Singapore announced on Facebook today (16 Mar) that the annual event would not be taking place at Hong Lim Park this year, amid the Covid-19 situation.

Instead, they invited supporters to tune into their livestream on the event day itself.

Pink Dot 2020 not held at Hong Lim Park, livestreamed instead

For the first time in their 12 years of holding Pink Dot, the annual event will not be held at Hong Lim Park this June.

Pink Dot Singapore announced that they made the decision with the “health and safety of (the) community” in mind.

Since the event can’t take place in person, they’ve decided to hold it online instead.

The livestream will take place at 6.30pm on 27 Jun. During the stream, there will be performances, as well as interactive discussions on LGBTQ issues.

Organisers will share more details about the performances later.

Supporters still encouraged to light up pink

One of the key moments of every Pink Dot is the light-up — where all participants come together to turn on their pink lights to proclaim their support for the Freedom to Love.

The pink lights are also a symbol of support for LGBTQ rights.

Sadly, there won’t be a mass pink light-up this year, but Pink Dot Singapore is still encouraging supporters to show up in their own way.

This includes lighting up their homes and workplaces with pink, as well as spending time with supportive friends and family on the day.

The event may not be able to go on in full this year, but the spirit of equality and support for all must live on.

Pink Dot Singapore hopes that supporters will still be able to celebrate the day in their own right.
