Police officers were on patrol when car caught fire along BKE

Two police officers were sent to the hospital in the early hours of Friday (21 Aug) morning when their car caught fire along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).

Footage posted by SG Road Vigilante on Facebook showed the vehicle engulfed in flames on a slip road.

Firefighters seen putting out police car fire along BKE

In the clip, an officer and a member of the public were seen watching the blaze from a distance, next to another vehicle.

No other vehicles were seen on the quiet road.

Later, a fire engine had arrived at the scene, with firefighters seen trying to put out the fire.

The flames soon appeared to have been mostly doused, though thick white smoke was still coming from the vehicle.

Police officers attempt to put out fire with member of the public

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said the fire occurred at about 12.10am on 21 Aug, along a slip road to the Seletar Expressway (SLE) exit of the BKE in the direction of Woodlands.

Two Traffic Police (TP) officers were on patrol when they saw smoke coming out from the vehicle’s engine compartment.

The officers immediately evacuated and attempted to extinguish the fire together with a member of the public.

TP officers sent to SGH for smoke inhalation

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted at the same time, eventually extinguished the fire with a water jet.

 

The two TP officers were subsequently sent to Singapore General Hospital in a conscious state, due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
