Police officer in Thailand demands fuel money from theft victim to investigate case

Police officer in Thailand suspended after demanding fuel money in exchange for investigating theft

A Thai influencer has accused a police officer of demanding “fuel money” before agreeing to investigate a break-in at her home.

In a TikTok video posted on Saturday (4 April), the influencer, known as Moofern, alleged that the officer told her family they would have to pay for petrol if they wanted him to travel to their house.

The clip quickly went viral, racking up over 650,000 likes and thousands of comments.

Officer allegedly refused to investigate without payment

According to Moofern, she and her aunt had filed a report at Mueang Sam Sip Police Station following a break-in at their home.

However, the officer allegedly said he would not proceed with investigations unless they covered his fuel costs, citing high petrol prices.

She added that her home is about 11km from the station.

Moofern also claimed the officer told her that another individual had previously paid him THB1,000 (S$40) to investigate a similar break-in.

Police response and apology

Following the viral post, the police station issued a statement on Facebook, but did not directly address the allegations of soliciting payment.

Instead, it said the issue stemmed from delays as the officer had other cases to attend to.

On 6 April, Moofern shared that a senior officer had visited her home to apologise and confirmed that the officer in question was under investigation.

More allegations surface

The case has since drawn further attention, with additional allegations emerging against the same officer.

According to Channel 7 News, another individual reportedly claimed that he had also asked her for fuel money when she sought help over a scam call.

He also allegedly requested THB3,000 (S$120) to transport documents, and even demanded up to THB50,000 (S$1,500) if the suspect was apprehended.
