The Singapore Police Force (SPF) arrested a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment.
In the press release on Tuesday (1 Sept), the police said they arrested the man at a residential unit along Woodlands Crescent.
On 31 Aug, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Woodlands Crescent at about 1.45pm.
According to the police, a bicycle lock had secured the residential unit’s main gate.

Through follow-up investigations and the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the perpetrator.
Within four hours of the report, the police arrested the man.
According to the police, the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.

Following the arrest, the court is charging the man under the Moneylenders Act 2008 on 2 Sept.
For first-time offenders, the offence carries a fine between S$5,000 and S$50,000 with a possible imprisonment of up to five years.
Additionally, the offender could also face caning of up to six strokes.

The police reminded the public that they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities.
Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disruption, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
Additionally, the police advised the public to stay away from loansharks and not to work or assist them in any way.
If they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities, the public can call the police at ‘999’.
