A roller coaster in the United States has stopped service since 12 July after two riders suffered significant brain injuries within a week.
The ride in question is the X2, also known as the Six Flags Magic Mountain, located in California.
The two injuries occurred in July, and both women had to undergo brain surgery to treat their injuries. One of them remains in a coma.
A CNN report describes what one of the women went through in the minutes-long ride.

The woman’s head hit the headrest multiple times throughout the ride. After the ride was over, she had to be escorted from her seat. She also began to vomit.
Once she sat down on a bench, the woman immediately passed out and did not wake up.
Emergency responders quickly rushed her to the hospital, where surgeons removed a part of her skull to ease the pressure on her brain.
She only woke up two weeks later and had to relearn how to walk.
Meanwhile, the other injured woman rode X2 six days after the first woman. Much like the former, she lost consciousness after the ride and was rushed to the hospital for a similar surgery.
Unfortunately, she is still in a coma and in critical condition.
But these two women weren’t the only ones injured from this ride.
In June 2022, a 22-year-old man who had just graduated from university died after riding X2. Christopher Hawley, who had been in perfect health prior, had trouble walking after the ride and said his head hurt.
He was rushed to the hospital, but died the following day.
Hawley’s family sued the park for wrongful death. They recently reached a settlement but the details have not been disclosed.
