3 Parents Of S’pore American School Students Test Positive For Covid-19, None Visited Premises

Singapore American School Parents Who Tested Positive For Covid-19 Are In “Good Condition”

In recent days, 3 parents whose children attend the Singapore American School (SAS) in Woodlands have tested positive for Covid-19.

Thankfully, all 3 of them are in “good condition” and are seeking medical treatment in hospitals. None of them had also visited the school premises.

Yet worryingly, the child of 1 of the parents apparently attended an event where other SAS students were in attendance.

Child attended event with other Singapore American School students

According to The Straits Times (ST), the father of the child who attended the event tested positive for Covid-19 on 15 Mar.

He was reportedly infected in Europe while travelling alone and had a mild fever when he returned to Singapore on 13 Mar.

His child, whose gender and age are undisclosed, apparently attended an event with other SAS students.

The father, however, neither attended the event nor visited the SAS premises. He also did not have any contact with students, apart from his child, after returning from overseas.

His child stayed at home and did not have contact with other students as soon as the father tested positive, reports ST.

Schools conducting e-learning and bringing forward spring breaks

SAS is currently on spring break and will reportedly resume school on 29 Mar. The school is also taking advantage of the holidays to carry out deep cleaning of its campus.

However, students will remain at home and will continue learning via virtual lessons for at least a week.

In addition, students whose family had travel overseas would also allegedly have to wait 14 days before they can return to school.

While local schools resumed classes yesterday (23 Mar), SAS recognised that many members of their community have “different travel patterns” and a 1-week e-learning period is essential to allow for the entire 2-week stay home period to take place.

Other international schools like Tanglin Trust School have also implemented similar measures, conducting e-learning and bringing forward their spring breaks.

Good safety measures by international schools in Singapore

We’re heartened by the additional measures international schools in Singapore are implementing in view of the “different” travel pattern of its community members.

Let’s hope all students, staff and their families remain healthy and safe from infection.

MS News wishes all 3 parents the speediest of recovery. We hope they’ll be discharged soon.
