Lots of Malaysians working in Singapore have been worried about their jobs after Malaysia PM Muhyiddin announced that the country will be going into lockdown starting Wednesday (18 Mar).
While some were successful in finding accommodations here, others weren’t as lucky.
On Thursday (19 Mar) afternoon, the Singapore High Commission in KL and Consulate-General In JB clarified in a Facebook post that Singaporeans and Malaysians who are Singapore Permanent Residents (PR), will still be allowed to leave Malaysia.
According to Johor state assemblyman Andrew Chen Kah Eng, Singapore PRs will be allowed to leave Malaysia during the lockdown period.
However, they will not be allowed to re-enter Malaysia during the lockdown, which may be extended past 31 Mar.
Those entering Singapore after Friday (20 Mar) will be also be subjected to a 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN).
Work pass holders, however, will not be allowed to leave Malaysia during the period.
8World News, however, reported some netizens found the update “does not help much”. On the other hand, others were relieved that they’ll be able to return to Singapore to retain their jobs.

We’re heartened that exceptions are being made by the Malaysian government to allow PRs workers to return to Singapore.
As mentioned earlier, we hope this will allow them to return and retain their jobs in Singapore.
As for work pass holders, only time will tell if the Malaysian government decides to lax their existing measures.
Whatever the case, we hope the new measures will prove effective and that the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia will drop in coming days.
