The circuit-breaker measures imposed by the Singapore Government have started on Tuesday (7 Apr). We know what that means for us, but animal lovers may worry about what this means for our homeless furry friends.
Luckily, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has shed some light on the issue — they will answer the call to care for these animals.
In a Facebook post on Monday (6 Apr), the organisation said all critical animal welfare services will remain operational from 7 Apr to 4 May.
This includes 24/7 emergency rescues, cruelty and welfare investigations, animal clinics, shelters and humane animal population management programmes.
However, all adoption services are on hold until further notice.
Fundraising events will also be cancelled. Sadly, this involves SPCA’s biggest fundraiser for the year, the Tux for Tails gala dinner.
This is unfortunate, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The non-profit organisation expects many challenges such as shortage of food and medical supplies, as donations are slated to take a “significant hit”, it said in an earlier Facebook post.
It seems pet abandonment will not be one of them, however, as thankfully SPCA has reported no increase in pet abandonment in Singapore.
This was previously of concern as many pet owners had reached out to SPCA wondering if they should surrender their pets for fear of animal-to-human Covid-19 transmission.
To date, 2 dogs, a cat and a tiger have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Kudos to SPCA and pet lovers for not leaving animals in the lurch during this tough period.
