Gym-goer asks S’poreans to stop ‘hating on ActiveSG’, says their gyms are value for money

Gym-goer defends ActiveSG gyms, asks Singaporeans to stop ‘hating’ on them

A TikTok video calling out Singaporeans for “hating” on ActiveSG gyms has sparked conversations online, with one gym-goer arguing that ActiveSG facilities are more than sufficient for most people.

Gym-goer defends ActiveSG gyms

Posted on 24 April by @ruggerbud47, the video compared ActiveSG and Anytime Fitness (AF) gyms.

The Original Poster (OP) also challenged the common perception that pricier memberships automatically lead to better results.

“Singaporeans actually need to stop hating on ActiveSG,” the OP said, questioning why many people “swear by Anytime Fitness”.

This was despite the fact that AF charges higher monthly fees, which can range from S$90 to S$120.

Drawing from his own experience as a regular gym-goer, he argued that ActiveSG gyms, especially newer or recently renovated ones, already provide everything the average person needs.

Key drawbacks are availability & operating hours

“Every single machine, every single free weight or dumbbell that you will ever need can be found in ActiveSG,” he said.

He also added that blaming gym equipment for lack of progress is “genuinely just bullsh**ting”.

However, the OP added that ActiveSG facilities are not without drawbacks.

One key issue is availability, as their affordability and accessibility mean they tend to be more crowded.

“If you don’t want to wait for machines, pay for membership,” he said.

The OP also pointed out that AF may be worth the higher price for those who prefer working out late at night, given its 24-hour access.

Membership price not proportional to progress

Still, the TikTok user stressed that gym choice alone does not determine fitness progress.

“The amount of money that you spend on your membership is not proportionate to how much progress you’re going to make in the gym,” said the OP.

Instead, he urged other gym users to focus on training consistency, diet, and sleep instead.

For most “average gym-goers”, he maintained that ActiveSG is more than enough.

“A cable fly machine in an ActiveSG gym versus a cable fly machine in an Anytime Fitness is not going to differ by much, if at all,” the OP stressed.

Most netizens agree with OP, praise ActiveSG

The video has since resonated with netizens, especially those who work out regularly at ActiveSG facilities.

A netizen said that the ActiveSG gym is “goated”, with the only drawback being that it is not “24/7”.
