S’pore Private-Hire & Taxi Passengers Who Are Unwell Will Get Free Masks From Drivers Starting 11 Feb

LTA To Distribute 300,000 Masks For Taxi And Private-Hire Drivers To Give To Passengers

The continual rise in the number of novel coronavirus cases has probably increased anxiety levels among many.

Don’t fret, however, as the government is doing its best to help Singaporeans get what they need to protect themselves from infection.

Jumping onto the bandwagon is the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which will be rolling out efforts to help more people beyond just drivers.

According to The Straits Times (ST), LTA will be distributing 300,000 surgical masks to taxi and private-hire car drivers.

They can hand these masks out to passengers who are feeling unwell as a precaution.

Taxi & private-hire drivers to give free masks to passengers

The large amount of masks aren’t for the drivers. Instead, they’re for passengers who are unwell and may require them.

ST reports that drivers will receive the masks from Tuesday (11 Feb), which means they will most likely be available to passengers from then too.

In light of mask supplies running low, we’re sure that many will welcome LTA’s gesture with open arms.

Just don’t go around hailing multiple rides to collect the free masks. You can get those at community clubs or centres near your homes till 29 Feb if you haven’t.

8 temperature taking stations nationwide

ST also reported that taxi operators will set up 8 temperature-screening stations across Singapore from Tuesday.

After having their temperature taken, taxi drivers would receive a sticker to indicate that their temperatures have been taken for the day.

So keep a lookout for these whenever you hail a cab.

In addition, private-hire car drivers from Grab and Gojek would have to take their own temperatures and submit their readings via their respective apps.

Be responsible and bring your own masks if possible

Even though taxis and private-hire cars will have masks for free, please bring your own one out if you are feeling sick as these masks are meant for sick people who don’t have any on hand and are in need of one.

Let’s not take this good initiative by our government for granted and cherish the supplies that we have now.
