A teen in Thailand nearly lost four fingers after compressing firecrackers into a pipe.
The 16-year-old boy from Maha Sarakham province was attempting to create fireworks from the experiment.
He later told medical staff that he had seen clips online and decided to try it himself.
After buying 300 ball-shaped firecrackers from a shop near his home, the device exploded while he was handling it, causing serious injuries.
The blast severely injured four fingers on the boy’s left hand and caused heavy bleeding.
He also suffered cuts to his right fingertips, injuries to both arms and legs, and ringing in his ears following the explosion.

Relatives who heard the blast rushed to help him and took him to a community hospital before he was transferred to Mahasarakham Hospital for further treatment.
Doctors cleaned and assessed his wounds before removing badly damaged tissue and repairing the injured areas.
Mahasarakham Hospital director Dr Nopadol Phitsanuwong (name transliterated from Thai) said injuries caused by firecrackers can resemble explosion injuries and are often difficult to treat.

The explosion can damage small blood vessels and nerves in the fingers, potentially reducing blood supply to the affected tissue.
This can lead to tissue death and, in severe cases, the loss of fingers.

Such wounds may also be contaminated with debris and explosive residue, increasing the risk of infection.
The teenager’s father said his son was currently taking a break from school and living with his grandmother while he worked away from home.
He said he was shocked by the accident and had not known that his son had obtained such a large quantity of firecrackers.
Both the father and hospital authorities urged parents to keep children away from fireworks and other explosive items, warning that a moment of experimentation could result in permanent injury or disability.
