Paramedics rushed them to the hospital, where the 73-year-old, Tham Nam Poh, died.
Later, 32-year-old Singaporean Gabriel Foong Shi Cheng turned himself in to police.
On 7 Oct, he received one count of murder, which allegedly happened at Block 57 Telok Blangah Heights.
CNA reported that Foong appeared in court via video-link. He asked for a Mandarin interpreter.
The prosecution requested for Foong to be remanded for three weeks at Changi Prison’s Complex Medical Centre.
During this time, he will receive an IMH evaluation to assess his mental responsibility for his offence.
The judge granted the prosecution’s request.
The police believe that Foong acted alone. They stated that there is no evidence of his attack being religiously motivated or an act of terror.
His case will be mentioned again on 28 Oct.
If convicted of murder, Foong will receive the death penalty.
