Thomson East Coast Line is opening in less than 2 months. And the Land Transport Authority (LTA) sure knows how to drum up excitement for Singapore’s 6th MRT line.
According to a press release by LTA, the much-anticipated Brown Line will officially be opened to the public on Friday (31 Jan).

Before the official opening, an open house will be held at Woodlands MRT station on Saturday (11 Jan) from 9am-6pm.
So keep that date free as many exciting activities awaits you.
Only 3 MRT stations – Woodlands North, Woodlands, and Woodlands South – will open on 31 Jan 2020.
But if you attend the open house, you get to be among the first batch of passengers to enjoy free rides between the 3 Woodlands stations.
Don’t miss the chance to check out the MRT station’s architecture and Art-in-Transit artworks as well.
At the open house, you can expect activities like carnival games, family activities, and community performances.

It wasn’t revealed what sorts of games there are but we sure hope it’ll be loads of fun.
Aside from games and activities, a Knackstop pop-up store will also be set up at the station so you can spend some money on transport-related knick knacks.
And if you remember LTA’s Thoughtful Characters mascots like Stand-Up Stacey and Bag-Down Benny, you’ll be thrilled to know that they’ll be at the open house too.

Here’s one more thing to take note of. Once Woodlands North MRT station officially opens, the bus route for service 856 will be amended.
The bus currently transports travellers between Woodlands and Yishun, but the route will be tweaked so you can alight directly outside Woodlands North MRT station.
How convenient.
Considering how vast the expanses of Woodlands are, we’re sure Woodlands residents will finally have an easier time travelling via another route apart from the North-South line.
We can’t wait till the Brown Line fully opens in 2024, so we get to travel directly to Gardens by the Bay for exciting events. This means, we may no longer have to take that dreaded long walk from Bayfront MRT. Phew.
Also, for your future reference, this is how the latest MRT map looks like, as released by LTA yesterday (11 Dec).
Be sure to share it with your friends and family to keep them updated.
