Toh Guan Dormitory Is Now An Isolation Area, No Outsiders Allowed

14 Covid-19 Cases Linked To Toh Guan Dormitory Cluster

As the number of Covid-19 cases in worker dormitories rises of late, 2 residential areas where in Punggol and Toh Guan have been gazetted as isolation areas last week.

On Monday (6 Apr) night, another dormitory in Toh Guan joined the list.

Toh Guan Dormitory, located in Jurong, has also been declared an isolation area by the Ministry of Health.

This will hopefully help contain the spread of Covid-19 and prevent a “possible outbreak”.

5 blocks in the premise were affected. They are: 13, 15, 17, 17A, 19 and 19A Toh Guan East.

To date, 14 Covid-19 cases have been linked to the Toh Guan Dormitory which first emerged as a cluster last Saturday (4 Apr).

The number of cases linked to the cluster, however, is showing signs of increasing. Just yesterday (6 Apr), 6 new cases – almost half of the 14 cases in total – were reported.

The move will hopefully help to prevent the virus from spreading further and minimise the risk of an “outbreak”, reports CNA.

Workers staying in the dormitory will stay in their rooms throughout this period. No visitors will also be allowed to enter.

The duration of isolation wasn’t disclosed, but it will likely last 14 days, like the other 2 dormitories announced as isolation areas earlier on.

2 dormitories declared isolation areas last week

Last Saturday (4 Apr), 2 other dormitories were declared isolations areas after Singapore reported its highest-ever single-day increase of 120 new Covid-19 cases.

These dormitories are:

  1. S11 Dormitory @ Punggol
  2. Westlite Toh Guan dormitory.

An estimated 20,000 workers from both dormitories are expected to be affected.

Over the past few days, a total of 7 dormitories have emerged as Covid-19 clusters. The most worrisome of them all is S11 Dormitory @ Punggol, as a staggering 88 cases are linked to it at the time of writing.

Worrying that clusters many dormitories are emerging as Covid-19 clusters

The number of clusters declared as Covid-19 clusters over the recent days is indeed worrying.

Isolating the area for 2 weeks is no doubt tough for those affected, but is a necessary move to keep the outbreak under control.

We hope they’ll bear with the temporary inconvenience and will be understanding of the new measures.
