Twice’s Tzuyu wishes she had super speed to meet fans all over the world, meets F1 drivers in S’pore

Twice’s Tzuyu joins Williams F1 Team and Dan Da Dan collab, reveals which superpower she’d want

What do Formula 1, anime, and K-pop have in common?

If you answered “nothing”, you’d be wrong, because all three worlds are colliding in an epic crossover featuring Tzuyu of K-pop girl group Twice, the Williams F1 Team, and hit anime series ‘Dan Da Dan’.

Tzuyu was in Singapore during Grand Prix race week to meet fans and share more about the collaboration, which will see her lend her voice to a special theme song slated for release in early 2027.

Tzuyu shares why she joined the unlikely crossover

While details of the track remain under wraps, Tzuyu offered a glimpse into what drew her to the admittedly unusual collaboration at a press conference on Friday (9 Oct).

The 27-year-old explained that although F1, anime, and music might seem like vastly different worlds, they share a common spirit of “creativity, passion, and courage”, values she personally identifies with.

Luke Timmins, Merchandise and Licensing Director at Atlassian Williams F1 Team, echoed that sentiment, pointing out that all three have passionate fanbases, making the crossover a natural fit.

For Tzuyu, it was also an opportunity to explore something new.

“As a singer, I love trying different things and exploring exciting, creative projects that can surprise and inspire both my fans and me,” she said.

That same desire to challenge herself also shaped her approach to the upcoming theme song, which follows the concept of “speed meets the supernatural”.

“I always love trying different things, and I want to challenge myself and continue to grow. I believe this theme song and the music video will truly surprise everyone,” she teased.

Beyond the music, the collaboration has also given Tzuyu a fresh perspective on F1 itself, which she used to think “was all about amazing drivers and speed”.

However, a visit to the Williams paddock, where she met drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, as well as their crew, opened her eyes to another side of the sport.

“I realised that F1 is really about the incredible teamwork behind the scenes,” she said, describing the experience as “really amazing”.

Tzuyu’s dream superpower would help her meet fans around the world

For those unfamiliar with the anime, ‘Dan Da Dan’ follows two high school students who find themselves caught up in bizarre encounters with ghosts, aliens, and other supernatural beings.

Since the series is packed with characters who have supernatural abilities, MS News asked Tzuyu during a media roundtable which power she would choose for herself.

Her answer was also decidedly F1-appropriate: speed.

“I wish I had Turbo Granny’s superpower so that I could move as fast as Turbo Granny, travel around the world, and meet all my fans,” she said.

For context, Turbo Granny is a powerful spirit featured in the show who is capable of reaching 100km/h. Her consciousness later ends up inhabiting a lucky cat doll in the series.

And while speed is certainly important in F1, so is preparation.

Just like drivers have their own pre-race rituals, Tzuyu has a few habits of her own before taking the stage.

When MS News asked about her pre-performance routine, she revealed that she repeatedly watches choreography videos when learning new dances and listens to recordings from her vocal lessons when preparing to sing.

But perhaps the simplest part of her routine comes just before she steps onstage: “I eat a throat candy to ensure I’m in the best condition.”

Who knew a humble sweet was part of the secret to a killer performance?

Fans can check out the collaboration at Marina Square until 13 Oct

While early 2027 might seem like a long wait for Tzuyu’s new song and music video, fans can get a taste of the crossover right here in Singapore in the meantime.

The Williams F1 Team Fan Zone at Marina Square is showcasing special activations and new merchandise featuring Kokone, a mysterious figure introduced as part of the collaboration.

The Fan Zone is open daily from 11am to 9pm until Tuesday (13 Oct), and admission is free.

Fans can also visit Sector Zero’s website to shop for merchandise and stay updated on the upcoming theme song, music video, and other exclusive experiences.
