17-year-old male to be charged for multiple traffic offences

A 17-year-old male will be charged in court on Thursday (28 May) for his involvement in multiple traffic offences.

This includes dangerous driving causing hurt, underage driving, and driving a deregistered car.

He was involved in three cases, with the latest occurring on 16 Jan in Paya Lebar, where the driver sped off after seeing Traffic Police (TP) conducting patrols.

Teenager caught speeding during car pursuit

For the first incident, the driver attempted to flee from TP officers, reaching 174 km/h on the East Coast Parkway, where the speed limit is 90 km/h.

He also ran multiple red traffic lights and drove against the flow of traffic along several roads, including Ubi Avenue 2 and Lorong 28 Geylang.

The driver eventually collided with five stationary vehicles along Paya Lebar Road and Guillemard Road, where the car stopped after colliding with a sixth stationary car at Marine Parade Road.

Subsequently, the teenager continued his flee by foot, but was arrested by TP officers.

The driver of the sixth stationary car and his 15-year-old passenger were injured during the accident.

After further investigations, it was found that the car driven was a deregistered car with a false number plate. During his arrest, a vaporiser and a pod were also found.

However, insufficient evidence meant that no further action was taken.

The male will be charged with multiple offences for this case, including dangerous driving causing hurt, driving whilst underage, and driving a deregistered car.

Drove grandmother’s car without her consent

Previously, the teenager was involved in two other traffic-related accidents.

On 30 Jan 2025, he had allegedly taken his grandmother’s car without her knowledge.

The teen drove the car for about an hour before returning it. When his grandmother found it missing, she called the police, and the car was found nearby.

Another deregistered car driven to MBS

For the third case, the male was caught driving another deregistered car on 8 Jan.

After conducting checks at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) carpark, police discovered that he had driven the car from Haig Road to MBS.

Investigations revealed that the car was driven with a false number plate.

Penalties for traffic offences

The 17-year-old could be facing multiple penalties for the traffic offences, with fines up to S$10,000 for dangerous driving causing hurt, and up to two years imprisonment.

Such offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

The police remind the public that driving deregistered vehicles and committing serious traffic offences without a valid driving license will be dealt with strictly.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and public cooperation is essential in keeping Singapore’s roads safe for all users.”
