An eatery in Kembangan has called out a male diner who was seen washing his hands with bottled water right at his table by pouring water directly onto the floor.
CCTV footage posted by DK Signatures on Instagram on Thursday (29 Oct) showed him doing this despite a wash basin provided for washing hands just a few steps away.

In the video, which had a timestamp of 5.29pm on 29 Oct, the man, who was eating with a female companion, is seen wiping his hands with tissue.

However, as this may not have been enough to get rid of the oiliness, he proceeded to open a bottle of mineral water on his table.

He then poured its contents over both his hands, rinsing them thoroughly and forming a puddle of water on the floor.

While doing this, he even flicked his hands for good measure, as a way of “drying” them.

Unsurprisingly, this would have caused water to splash all over the vicinity.

When a sharp-eyed staff member saw this, he promptly retrieved a mop.
He then wiped up the water on the floor without appearing to say anything to the man who created the mess.

The diner continued eating, as though nothing had happened.
In the caption, DK Signatures urged patrons not to wash their hands at their tables and cause water to “drip all over the floor”.
Not only is the practice unhygienic, it also causes the floor to get wet, presenting a “slipping hazard” for customers and staff, they said, adding:
I think it’s really just basic consideration for the people around us, especially those who are working hard to keep the restaurant clean and comfortable for everyone.
They also noted that their staff would have to clean up the mess.
The eatery said they understood that diners would have to use their hands to eat their prawn noodles or seafood dishes, and it’s “no problem at all” to want to wash their hands afterwards.
That’s why they provide a wash basin near the entrance, as well as a toilet at the back, complete with hand soap and tissues.
All people would have to do is “just take a few steps” to the basin or toilet to wash their hands “properly”, they added.

In a follow-up post on Friday (30 Oct), DK Signatures’ proprietor responded to netizens’ comments by explaining that nobody approached the man as she and her husband were not present at the time.
Their staff are trained to avoid confrontations with customers and were “genuinely at a loss” over what to do.
After being in the F&B business for almost 10 years, this was the “very first time” they had encountered such an incident, she said.
The proprietor clarified that the intention behind the post was to highlight “basic dining etiquette”, saying that the man’s behaviour was inappropriate whether at a hawker centre, coffeeshop or restaurant.
They also deliberately did not reveal the couple’s race or nationality because that was not the point of the video.
She urged netizens to stop speculating about where they are from, as there was no intention to shame or embarrass them — that’s why faces were blurred.
“Bad dining etiquette has nothing to do with race or nationality,” she asserted, adding:
I think we can all be a little more considerate towards the people working in F&B.
