Woman Uses Family Member’s TraceTogether Token During Isolation Period, Faces Up To 5 Years’ Jail

Woman Uses Family Member’s TraceTogether Token During Self-Isolation Period

After almost a year of using TraceTogether, it is practically second nature for us to check in before entering various locations.

However, when individuals are ineligible to enter certain places, they might search for loopholes to bypass regulations.

On 3 Sep, police received a report that a woman used her family member’s TraceTogether token on 3 separate occasions. This occurred during her self-isolation period.

The woman has been arrested for cheating by personation and will be charged on Friday (12 Nov).

She was found to have used the token on 3 separate occasions to enter different premises on 30 Apr and 2 May, reported The Straits Times (ST).

During that period, her company instructed her to self-isolate at home while awaiting her polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results after coming into close contact with a Covid-19 case.

To be charged on 12 Nov

The woman will be charged in court on Friday (12 Nov) for the offence of pretending to be someone else.

This carries a jail term of up to 5 years, a fine, or both, reported Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) emphasised that such irresponsible behaviour will be taken seriously by them, especially in our current Covid-19 situation.

They urged the public to play their part by being socially responsible and adhering to safe management measures.

Hope incident will act as a deterrent

By leaving her house and entering various premises after coming into close contact with a Covid-19 case, the woman’s actions have put many others at risk.

It is socially irresponsible and all the more so during this crucial time in Singapore’s fight against the pandemic.

Hopefully, this incident will act as a deterrent to individuals flouting our prevailing safety measures and ensure it will not happen again.
