A man who suddenly collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest while partying at Zouk survived thanks to a stranger, who immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him.
His friend told the story in an Instagram post on Tuesday (22 Sept), describing the life-saver as a “Good Samaritan”.

The original poster (OP) said his friend is a “fit” man in his 50s who works in the fitness industry.
Last Friday (18 Sept), they had partied together at Simply Retro by Tin Box, a club located in CHIJMES.

After that, he went to Zouk with his friends to continue the night.
However, while he was dancing calmly to the music he suddenly “froze and fell backwards”, the OP said.
Fortunately, a male stranger performed CPR on him.
This helped greatly as without timely intervention, his brain would have been deprived of oxygen.
This would mean he could have died or not made a full recovery, the OP noted, adding:
You never know when you’ll have a heart attack… You can only hope that someone is around to perform CPR!
More scary was the fact that he showed no symptoms before collapsing, unlike the previous time he had a heart attack 26 years ago.
In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 2.35am on 19 Sept.
It came from 3C River Valley Road — the address of Zouk.

SCDF conveyed one person to Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
However, in the ambulance, he flatlined and stopped breathing, his friend.
He was resuscitated again after about five automated external defibrillator (AED) shocks were administered to his body.
His friend was reportedly told that it was unusual for flatliners to become responsive that soon.
The OP subsequently visited his friend in hospital and recorded him saying that he had no memory of what had happened at Zouk.

He was surprised when told that he had collapsed and, in the OP’s words, “managed to shut down Zouk”, which turned on the lights at 3am in response to the incident.

He has fully recovered and is under observation in hospital, with test results showing no blockage, the OP said, adding that a defibrillator will be implanted in him soon.
The OP appealed for the man who performed CPR on his friend to get in touch with him, as the immediate response ensured that his heart kept supplying oxygen to his brains and other vital organs even when it stopped beating.
Later, he updated that he had found the Good Samaritan, which was a fitting moniker as he is with the Samaritans of Singapore.
It also turned out that he was perhaps fated to save his friend, as he initially wasn’t supposed to visit Zouk that night but changed his mind.
He ended up performing CPR on someone for just the second time, and urged the public to help those in need, the OP said.
