Tampines Member of Parliament (MP) Baey Yam Keng celebrated his 56th birthday on 31 Aug.

He thanked his family, friends, and grassroots leaders for presenting him with birthday cakes.

Baey Yam Keng gets multitude of birthday cakes

The Minister of State posted about his heartwarming day on Facebook, where he shared photos from the celebrations.

The first photo showed him and his wife, Lim Hai Yen, in front of a birthday cake celebrating him turning 56.

Mr Baey would end up being given many more cakes that day by friends, activists, and grassroots leaders.

He thanked them for remembering his birthday and the warm wishes.

Mr Baey said that to him, birthdays have just felt like “just another day”.

His 56th birthday, however, carried a deeper meaning.

Baey Yam Keng inspired by meeting cancer patients at fashion show

Two days prior, on 29 Aug, Mr Baey attended the ‘Fashion For Cancer’ 2026 event as an audience member.

The annual fashion show helped to raise funds for charity, and brought together cancer patients and survivors to walk the runway.

“Listening to their stories and witnessing their courage reminded me how precious and uncertain life can be,” Mr Baey said.

Their strength inspired him to live with greater purpose and compassion.

At 56, I’m grateful to be here, grateful for good health, and grateful for the family, friends and community who continue to walk alongside me.

In 2021, Mr Baey was diagnosed with stage one nose cancer. To prevent radiation therapy complications, doctors extracted five of his teeth.

“As someone looking forward to the fifth year anniversary of my nose cancer treatment in January 2027, and hoping to go into a remission, I know it’s a daunting and painful journey,” he shared.

In his birthday post, Mr Baey expressed his wishes for “another year of life, love and service” and growing older with gratitude, hope, and wisdom.
