Wife Of Bangladeshi Worker In S’pore ICU Gives Birth, Video Calls Husband Before Delivery

Bangladeshi Worker’s Wife Saw Husband In Singapore ICU Via Video Call A Day Before Birth

As all eyes are on daily Covid-19 updates in Singapore, a lady all the way in Bangladesh has only 1 case in mind.

Her husband, a 39-year-old Bangladeshi worker who tested positive for Covid-19 here, has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) since 7 Feb.

Yearning for his support before the delivery, his wife managed to get a glimpse of her husband’s face via a video call.

Though brief, it was enough to carry her through, and she gave birth to a healthy baby boy yesterday (30 Mar).

Doctors arranged video call with husband in ICU

Any woman about to deliver a child would want her husband by her side throughout the excruciating process.

The Bangladeshi worker’s wife, however, had no such privilege as her husband lies sedated in an ICU far away in Singapore.

Fortunately for her, doctors at the hospital here managed to arrange a last-minute video call with the help of the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC).

Though her husband couldn’t say a word, she simply drew “strength from seeing her beloved before the delivery.”

She welcomed the arrival of their firstborn child at 12.30am Singapore time yesterday (30 Mar), according to volunteer group Itsrainingraincoats.

Both mother and baby are healthy and doing well.

Bangladeshi worker cleared of Covid-19 but still in ICU

MWC updated that the worker is now clear of Covid-19 but remains in ICU to receive treatment for his other illnesses.

His condition “remains critical”, though clearance from the virus leaves them hopeful for a positive development.

MWC also conveyed his wife’s gratitude for the medical team attending to her husband, and the well wishes from kind strangers.

As he approaches his second month in ICU, we wish the worker a smooth recovery and hope that he gets to see his firstborn soon.

For now, MS News extends our congratulations to the pair for the birth of their baby.
