On 16 Oct, a clip showing at least two boys fishing at Marina Bay Sands went viral on TikTok. It is unclear when the footage was taken, but the haze conditions spotted in the background suggest it was recent.
The clip begins with the two boys showing off their big catch — a Peacock Bass which appeared to be just larger than the size of their forearms.

“Big one!” the boy holding the fishing pole can be heard yelling multiple times as he works to reel in his catch.
In the water below, the fish splashes on the surface from the time to time.
The boy holding the pole then tells his friend to retrieve something from his bag.

Eventually, the fish seems to have exhausted itself and lies nearly still on the surface of the water.
After a brief struggle, the pair managed to reel in the fish, setting it on the walkway to admire their catch.

The clip quickly garnered more than 100 comments over the course of a day, many of which were negative.

The story comes just days after another group was spotted earlier this month fishing in the same area. A sign saying “no fishing” can be spotted right next to the anglers.
According to NParks, fishing is “only permitted at designated areas” within designated parks. These parks are listed on their website here.
You can also fish at reservoirs and waterways. These designated spots are listed on PUB’s website here.
NParks also advises anglers to reduce their impact on the environment by:
