Bloodied man seen lying on Geylang Road, car driver checks on him

A 43-year-old witness named only as Ms Huang (transliterated from Mandarin), who runs a noodle shop in the area, told Shin Min Daily News that she and her staff heard a loud noise.

They then saw an uncle lying face down on the road, apparently having been hit by a vehicle.

His head and legs were covered in blood and he was gasping for air, she said.

The driver immediately got out of his car to check on the uncle, though nobody dared to move him.

Most serious case seen along accident-prone stretch

Ms Huang immediately called an ambulance, she said.

The business owner, who has been operating at the location for more than 20 years, maintained that accidents occurred frequently along this stretch of Geylang Road, but usually minor ones involving pedestrians who managed to get back up.

However, this was the most serious accident she had seen yet.

Another witness, a 28-year-old migrant worker, told the Chinese daily that he saw the elderly man crossing the road before the accident.

Several police officers at the scene, car driver taken away

Shin Min reporters who went to the location found part of the road cordoned off by the police.

Several police vehicles were at the scene, with investigators seen placing evidence markers and taking photos for evidence at 7pm.

The car driver was also present, sporting a sombre expression.

He was taken away by the police after they searched his white car.

Man passes away in hospital after car accident

In response to queries from MS News, SPF said it was alerted to the accident at about 5pm on 16 Oct.

It took place along Geylang Road in the direction of Kallang Road at the junction with Lorong 32 Geylang, and involved a car and a pedestrian.

A 69-year-old male pedestrian was sent to the hospital in an unconscious state.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted at about 4.55pm, told MS News that he was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

However, he subsequently passed away.

Meanwhile, a 46-year-old male car driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.

Police investigations are ongoing.
