Driver purportedly trapped in car after accident with SUV in Tanjong Pagar

A 65-year-old car driver was sent to the hospital on Wednesday (23 Sept) night after a collision with a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) in the Tanjong Pagar area.

Footage of the aftermath posted on TikTok showed several rescuers attempting to extricate the driver of a grey car.

The original poster (OP) said she was walking to dinner when she came across the scene.

In the clip, a black SUV was seen to have T-boned the grey car on its right side and ended up being lodged into the driver’s door.

The crash caused the grey car’s airbags to be deployed.

SCDF firefighters work to free trapped car driver

The driver of the grey car was also observed to be still in his seat, possibly unable to get out due to the SUV blocking his door.

Several police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers were at the scene, with a number of them surrounding the grey car.

They were apparently trying to get to the trapped driver from the back passenger door.

The OP said the firefighters were “working to rescue passengers who were trapped inside the vehicle”.

An ambulance and fire engine were parked on standby nearby.

A young man in a black T-shirt and jeans sat on the kerb, being spoken to by an officer.

Nobody in damaged car 2 hours later

The OP said that when she returned to the scene after dinner about two hours later, the damaged grey car was still there.

However, nobody was inside the car by then, the driver probably having been removed.

She saw only a police car nearby, awaiting the vehicle’s removal.

65-year-old car driver sent to hospital conscious

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it was alerted to the accident at about 7.35pm on 23 Sept.

It took place at the junction of Tras Street and Tras Link, and involved two cars.

A 65-year-old male car driver was sent to the hospital in a conscious state.

SCDF, which was alerted at about 7.40pm, told MS News that he was conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
