A 24-year-old Chinese woman went missing in Thailand for a week after accepting a ride from a stranger at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Later, she posted on social media, claiming that she had returned to China, but the post raised doubts among netizens.
Qi Meng had travelled overseas for the first time and arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on 2 Aug after spending a week sightseeing in Malaysia.
According to her friend, internet influencer Chen Ze, Ms Qi had accepted an offer from a stranger at the airport who said he could drive her to Chiang Mai.
She lost contact shortly after getting into the vehicle.

The Chinese embassy in Thailand confirmed on 11 Aug that Qi’s family had sought assistance.
The embassy said it had informed the family about the procedures for reporting the case to Thai police and would continue to provide support, Xinhua reported.
Ms Qi’s friends and family said via online appeals that her relatives were under extreme stress and had been hospitalised.
Her friends also appealed for anyone holding Ms Qi to contact them to discuss a possible ransom, urging her safe return.
Some reports suggested that Ms Qi may have planned parts of the trip with a male acquaintance she recently met online.
