The victim was identified as Thammanoon (name transliterated from Thai), a third-year student at a local technology college.

Victim unable to fight against strong current

According to his girlfriend, Thammanoon and a group of seven to eight friends had gone to the pier in the morning to fish.

As the weather became hotter, the group entered the river to cool down and began playing hide-and-seek in the water.

She said Thammanoon later swam towards an area with a whirlpool before attempting to return to shore.

However, he was unable to fight against the strong current and was pulled towards the middle of the river before disappearing underwater.

Divers recovered body after one-hour search

Five rescue divers searched the river despite the strong currents. After about an hour, they found and recovered Thammanoon’s body.

The victim’s grandmother, who had remained at the scene during the search, broke down after learning of his death and needed medical attention from rescue workers.
