The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced Wednesday (15 Apr) that there are a record 447 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
Of these, 404 are from dorms — this is over 90% of new cases.
This is the highest spike seen daily since Covid-19 hit Singapore.
Here are all the new numbers at a glance.
41 people more have recovered and been discharged, meaning there are 652 recovered cases in total.
26 of those in hospital are in critical condition in the ICU.
There are 10 deaths linked to Covid-19 here.
MOH announced that Case 3381, an 80-year-old Malaysian passed away yesterday (14 Apr) from causes unrelated to Covid-19. He tested positive after his death.
As mentioned, this case isn’t part of the 10 fatalities.
New cases of community spread are stable, according to MOH. 38 new community cases were found, while there were 0 imported cases again for the 6th day running.
The youngest new local case is aged 7, currently unlinked. At the moment, he’s warded at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
However, 68% of the new cases are as yet unlinked — that’s around 143 cases.
4 new clusters were found by MOH. These clusters are:
Meanwhile, MOH’s contact tracing dug up links for 375 cases which were previously unlinked — these cases were confirmed between 8-14 Apr.
Meanwhile, 404 new cases are linked to dormitories, while a further 5 work permit holders do not live at a dormitory.
The spike in cases can be attributed largely to an increase in testing at foreign worker dormitories, which have become giant clusters.
Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said on Tuesday (14 Apr) that 5,000 workers will be tested in the next few days, according to Nikkei Asian Review.
The government is taking steps such as isolating all dormitories and moving healthy workers to other places to beat the virus there.
With these measures combined with the ‘Circuit Breaker’, hopefully the rise in cases will go down by the time 4 May arrives.
