Muddy water flows into coffeeshop and entire block

21-year-old Darryl, working as a Grab rider, told MS News that he went to Block 101 Yishun Avenue 5 at around 12.30am to collect a customer’s order.

Instead, he found the area around the block’s coffeeshop partially submerged.

“Look at this. The whole coffeeshop is flooding, bro!” He exclaimed in the video, showing brown water engulfing the entire area.

As he panned his camera around, the footage showed the flood stretching down the entire block.

It appeared that almost all the shops in the area had already closed due to the late hour.

Delivery rider delayed for over an hour due to flooding

“I can’t even collect my order,” he complained.

Darryl told MS News that the flood, which went past ankle-deep levels, delayed him for over an hour as his vehicle could not pass through it.

He eventually obtained the order with the help of his friends.

Another video shared with MS News showed others on bicycles and Personal Mobility Aids (PMAs) carefully navigating the new “lake” that had sprung up.

25 shops in Yishun affected by flooding from burst pipe

Nee Soon Member of Parliament (MP) K Shanmugam confirmed in a statement that a water pipe had burst in Yishun, affecting around 25 shops in the area.

“Some businesses were more affected than others, and merchants are understandably concerned about the disruption caused,” he stated.

Local Town Council workers had been working non-stop to help clean up their shops and surrounding areas, which had been covered in mud.

PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, is working to repair the damaged pipe and investigating the cause.

The burst pipe did not disrupt the water supply to nearby homes and businesses.

“We will continue working closely with PUB and the affected shop owners on the clean-up and follow-up support,” Mr Shanmugam said.
