A female jogger in Singapore has sparked discussion online after asking whether wearing a sports bra and running shorts in public is “too scandalous”.
The question, posted on Reddit on 30 April, drew mixed reactions but largely supportive responses.
The Original Poster (OP), who described herself as a casual runner, said she usually runs in her neighbourhood, parks, and the central business district (CBD).
She explained that Singapore’s sweltering heat often leaves her drenched in sweat.

She added that her outfit of choice was a sports bra and shorts, as they are comfortable.
“I sweat like nobody’s business… streams of sweat dripping down my body,” the OP shared.
She added that wearing a shirt only makes her feel more uncomfortable and creates extra laundry.
However, the OP noted that her attire tends to attract stares, which made her wonder where the line is drawn when it comes to “appropriate” fitness wear in Singapore.
Despite this, she maintained that her outfit is practical and not revealing, pointing out that her shorts have inner linings and provide adequate coverage.

“I personally feel that it’s acceptable,” she said, adding that she also enjoys seeing other women in similar sporty outfits.
“So is there such a thing as ‘too much skin’ when it comes to fitness attire in sg?” the OP asked.
The post attracted many responses, with most commenters taking a supportive stance.
One netizen felt that the OP should wear “whatever is comfortable” for her.

A commenter agreed, saying the weather is too hot these days to bother about “judgmental looks” from others.

A Redditor said that “it is fine as long as it is not indecent exposure”, adding that people may stare regardless.

Another netizen who jogs around East Coast Park pointed out that the OP’s choice of attire is “quite common”, though some people may “still be conservative”.

In an update, the OP said she appreciated the feedback but would continue dressing based on her own comfort.
“I agree that there’s no right or wrong (unless you’re butt naked),” she said.
She also took the opportunity to ask fellow runners to share some underrated running routes with her.
