Snake falls ‘from the sky’ & lands near man’s feet at Robinson Road pedestrian crossing

Man shocked after snake falls ‘from the sky’ and lands near his feet while waiting to cross Robinson Road

A man in Singapore’s central business district (CBD) got a shock when a snake suddenly dropped from above and landed near his feet while he was waiting to cross the road.

The bizarre incident was captured in a TikTok video posted by @certified_gmo on 27 April.

Snake falls ‘from the sky’ in CBD

According to the video, the bizarre incident occurred along Robinson Road during the Original Poster’s (OP) lunch break.

The OP said the snake fell from above and landed about a metre away from him as he stood at a traffic light.

The clip showed a greenish snake moving near the traffic light post while pedestrians crossed the road in the background.

The camera then slowly panned upwards to show where the reptile reportedly fell from, before zooming back to the snake.

Text overlaid on the video highlighted the OP’s surprise: “Waiting to cross the street in Robinson Road Singapore and a snake fell from the sky.”

Notably, there was no greenery or trees around the area from which the snake might have emerged.

Netizens say it is good omen

Netizens reacting to the clip expressed a mix of shock and amusement, with many joking about how lucky the OP was.

One netizen called the snake sighting a “good omen”.

A TikTok user speculated that it could be a flying tree snake, which they reported spotting at the Chinese Garden previously.

One commenter joked that there were many people “eating snake” (local slang for skiving) in the CBD area.

Another netizen asked the OP if they helped to save the snake since it had fallen from a height.

Never seen a snake in the CBD before

The OP, Mr Greg Andrle, a senior solutions consultant, told MS News the snake sighting happened on 28 April at around 1.15pm.

“I was on my way out for coffee after lunch, standing at the corner waiting for the light, when I heard a sudden smack on the pavement right in front of me. I looked down. It was a snake. I couldn’t believe it!” said Mr Andrle.

He also recounted that people were “shouting and running away” from the snake.

“It was shocking because it was right in the middle of the city. I’ve seen snakes in parks before, but never in the CBD,” Mr Andrle shared.

“The snake seemed to panic, slithered toward the entrance, and wrapped itself around a railing,” he added.

Building security eventually called the authorities to remove it.

Public advised to stay calm if they encounter snakes

According to the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), the public should call their Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600 if they come across snakes that are injured, distressed, or trapped.

AVS also urges the public to avoid handling the snake themselves, as this may cause further stress or injury to the animal. The snake may also bite in self-defence.

“Stay calm and do not be alarmed. Back away slowly to give the snake space to retreat.”

AVS also shared that snakes are shy by nature and will not attack humans unless provoked or cornered.

However, sudden movements may alarm the animal and cause it to attack in self-defence.
