A store owner’s signboard in Geylang has sparked debate over its alleged resemblance to the sign and logo of local supermarket chain Sheng Siong.
Hua Sheng Supermart, located at Lorong 22 Geylang, appears to bear similar elements to the local chain, leaving several customers confused.
Facebook user Douglas Chow first raised the issue on 25 April.
“You know you are successful when copycats take inspiration from you”, Mr Chow said.

The post is also accompanied by two pictures of the logos from both outlets.
When comparing the pair, the similarities are uncanny.
Netizens pointed out the blue-and-white colour scheme, circular logo elements, Chinese characters within the circle, and the use of a green tick.
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the owner of Hui Sheng Supermart, Mr Li, said that the logo was designed after his own name.

He claimed that the sign’s design was conceived originally by him and not based on other brands.
“It’s a totally different concept. I was just using whatever came to my mind,” said Mr Li.

Mr Li also claimed that no customers have raised the issue of similar-looking signboards in the two months the store has been operating.
While he admitted to noticing online discussions about the similarities between the logos, Mr Li said he would not be paying heed to them.
