2 New Clusters Emerge At Hong Lim Market & Jalan Besar Eatery, Premises Closed

Hong Lim Market & Food Centre Closes Temporarily After New Clusters Emerge

Following the emergence of the KTV cluster, it seems like the Covid-19 updates have been coming in non-stop, especially with the change in rules yesterday (16 Jul).

Now that case numbers are rising again, it’s perhaps no surprise that new clusters are emerging at places like Hong Lim Market & Food Centre.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 2 new clusters yesterday, with 14 cases in total.

2 new clusters emerge at 3 locations

In an update on Friday (16 Jul), MOH added 3 new locations to the list of active clusters:

  • Jurong Fishery Port
  • Hong Lim Market & Food Centre
  • Khoi Grill & Hotpot (Jalan Besar)

The first 2 locations are grouped together into 1 cluster, with 7 Covid-19 cases in total.

6 of the 7 cases were part of the new case count yesterday.

Khoi Grill & Hotpot in Jalan Besar also has 7 cases, 5 of which surfaced yesterday too.

Hong Lim Market & 2 other locations close in light of clusters

Due to the emergence of these clusters, MOH has ordered the closure of the 3 venues effective immediately.

Hong Lim Market & Food Centre and Jurong Fishery Port will be closed from 17 – 31 Jul 2021.

During that period, the premises will undergo deep cleaning. MOH is also providing mandatory Covid-19 tests to individuals who visited both locations on the following dates:

  • Hong Lim Market & Food Centre – 2 Jul-16 Jul
  • Jurong Fishery Port – 3 Jul-16 Jul

Visitors must monitor their health closely and minimise social interactions for 14 days following their last visits.

As for Khoi Grill & Hotpot at 283 Jalan Besar, they will close from 16 – 30 Jul 2021.

Customers and staff have been placed on quarantine and will undergo Covid-19 tests during this period.

Hope Singapore will be able to contain clusters

The addition of these clusters brings our total now to 27 active clusters, with the KTV lounges/clubs being the biggest at 120 cases.

While the authorities have pre-empted us to expect even more cases and clusters to emerge, let’s not grow fearful.

With the new restrictions and enforcement, we can take comfort in the fact that the authorities are doing their best to contain infections.

On our part, let’s adhere to the measures so we can push case numbers down again and enjoy looser restrictions soon.
