Pop duo LANY meet fans at exclusive S’pore event for The Kallang App members ahead of sold-out concert

LANY meet fans in Singapore at exclusive event ahead of sold-out concert

On Wednesday (4 Nov), American synth-pop duo LANY performed for thousands of fans at a sold-out show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

But the night before, a lucky group of BFGs — we’ll explain in a bit — were treated to a far more intimate evening with Paul Klein and Jake Goss.

The pair got up close and personal with fans at a special engagement session jointly organised by Universal Music Singapore and The Kallang.

Held at the Bank of Singapore Lounge in the National Stadium, the exclusive event gave fans the rare opportunity to interact with their idols in a cosy setting, away from the usual concert crowds.

This wasn’t an experience that money could buy, by the way. The lucky few had won their coveted spots through an exclusive lucky draw for members of The Kallang App, marking the first event of its kind offered through the app since its launch.

Some had even reportedly flown in from Malaysia, China, the Philippines, and beyond for the chance to meet LANY, who were back in Singapore for the seventh time.

LANY share their love for Singapore and stories behind latest album

Despite having performed for massive crowds around the world, Klein and Goss seemed just as excited to be in the room as their fans were to see them.

“You guys are some of the loudest in the world, and you sing really nice,” Klein said, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the room.

The duo were back in town for their Soft World Tour, which supports their sixth studio album, ‘Soft’, released in Oct 2025, and its expanded follow-up, ‘Soft 2’, which arrived in March this year.

For Klein and Goss, touring the new music has been just as rewarding as making it.

“There’s nothing better than working really hard on songs and then going on tour and seeing how much they mean to people,” Klein shared during the session.

He likened making an album to putting together a gift, explaining that while the band wants to create music they love, they also hope their fans will love it just as much.

Hearing audiences around the world sing along, even when English isn’t their native language, has made the experience especially meaningful.

After all, as Klein said, LANY started out simply making songs in a bedroom and putting them on the Internet.

Today, those same songs are being sung back to them by thousands of people around the world.

“We’re actually living the dream, and we’re having a great time on tour,” he said, joking that he wished it could ‘Last Forever’, in a cheeky nod to one of their songs.

LANY’s fanbase gets an official name

But the evening wasn’t just about hearing the duo share stories about themselves and their music.

At one point, 987FM DJ Germaine Tan, who hosted the event, brought up the fact that LANY’s fanbase didn’t have an official name.

This prompted Klein to suggest “Best Friends In The World” before settling on “Best Friends Gang”, or BFG for short.

And so that’s pretty much how everyone in the room got a new name to call themselves.

Three lucky fans get to ask LANY their burning questions

Three lucky members of the newly christened BFG were then invited to ask LANY questions of their own, starting with the most memorable moments behind the making of ‘Soft’.

Klein recalled how LANY had toured with John Mayer, one of their musical heroes, in 2017.

So when Mayer’s bassist, Pino Palladino, ended up playing on ‘Soft’, it felt like a special full-circle moment for the band.

Another question touched on the inspiration behind the album’s striking artwork, which shows Klein cradling a lamb with bloodied, bandaged hands.

The singer explained that the lamb represents the softness within us, while the blood and bandage symbolise the struggle and strength it takes to protect that vulnerability.

As people go through life, he shared, it’s easy to become hardened by the hurtful words and actions of others.

“But I think our softness is something worth holding onto,” he said.

Finally, the third fan posed an interesting question: If LANY could listen to one of their own songs for the first time again, which would it be?

For Klein, the answer was ‘ILYSB’, one of the first songs the band ever wrote.

He described it as the “gateway drug to LANY”, given how it had introduced so many listeners to their music.

Goss, meanwhile, picked ‘Last Forever’ from their latest album, calling it a “masterpiece”.

Fans serenade LANY in song-guessing game and explore exclusive pop-up

The fun didn’t stop there, as several other fans were invited to take the spotlight for a game where they had to hum or sing LANY songs for the duo to guess.

What followed was part music quiz, part impromptu karaoke session, complete with plenty of cheers and some surprisingly impressive vocals.

One fan even went all out with a soulful rendition of ‘ILYSB’, complete with dramatic vocal runs that left the duo visibly impressed.

And even those who weren’t picked to go on stage had plenty to look forward to.

The entire lounge had also been transformed into a LANY-themed pop-up, complete with photo spots, a T-shirt designed by Klein himself, and an adorable limited-edition lamb plushie inspired by the band’s ‘Soft’ album.

There was also a plushie decoration bar where fans could get creative and personalise their keepsakes from the special evening.

LANY thank fans for their unwavering support

Beyond the singing, merch, and photo ops, the evening was also a chance for LANY to show their appreciation for the people who have supported them over the years.

“We’re so lucky to have you. Thank you so much for giving us a job, and for rocking with us,” Klein told the crowd.

Whether you’ve been rocking with us for a day, or a month, or a year, or whatever, thank you.

And while thousands would get to sing along with LANY at the Singapore Indoor Stadium the following night, these lucky BFGs got something a little different: a chance to exchange stories, share personal moments, and make memories with the duo in a room that felt more like a gathering of friends than a fan event.

Not a bad way to spend an evening with your favourite band.
