After more than 10 years of betting on his old car registration numbers, a Malaysian man won RM14.8 million (around S$4.8 million) in the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 draw.
The 52-year-old property manager from Selangor won the prize on 6 May, after placing a total bet of just RM6 (S$1.90) on the numbers 9186 and 4828.

The prize was part of the total RM16.8 million (S$5.4 million) jackpot, with another winner from Kuala Lumpur taking home the remaining RM1,975,853.50 (S$640,000).
The man said he had been betting on the same pair of numbers, 9186 and 4828, because they were derived from the registration numbers of his old cars.
To him, the numbers carried “sentimental value”.
He said he had been betting on the two numbers for more than 10 years simply because they reminded him of his old cars, and he never expected both to win in the same draw.
As luck would have it, both combinations came up together, earning him RM14,818,901.35, along with an additional RM336 (S$109) bonus. He later collected the prize at the STM Lottery head office.

Safe to say, those old plate numbers now come with a brand-new memory.
The man also admitted that he once had doubts about stories of people striking it rich through the lottery.
“Now that I have personally experienced it, I can say the winning stories are indeed real,” he said.
With the winnings, he plans to buy a luxury car and put some of the money into property investments.
He also said he intends to be careful with how he handles the windfall, so it can support him in the long run.
