A 32-year-old Indonesian man will be charged in court after allegedly hiding a knife in his shoe at Changi Airport.
He allegedly attempted to pass through security screening at Terminal 4 with the weapon, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release on Friday (28 Aug).

The incident took place on Thursday (27 Aug), when the man was at the Centralised Security Screening Area of Terminal 4’s departure hall.
He was told to take off his high-cut shoes before stepping through screening.
When his shoes were put through an X-ray machine, the Certis Cisco aviation security officer operating the machine found a suspicious sharp object in his right shoe.

The man was subsequently escorted to a search room, SPF said.
There, a 19.5cm-long knife with a 12cm blade was found in his shoe, together with a sheath.
They were concealed inside a sock, wrapped in layers of plastic bags and sealed with tape.

The police were alerted at about 1.10pm.
On Saturday (29 Aug), the man will be charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
Under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, those convicted of this offence face up to three years in jail and at least six strokes of the cane.
SPF said it takes “a serious view” of attempts to bring offensive weapons into public spaces.
It reminded travellers that those found in possession of offensive weapons without a lawful purpose will be dealt with firmly “in accordance with the law”.
