Singapore Red Cross pledges S$50K to support response efforts in Nepal, calls for public donations

Singapore Red Cross aiming to raise S$500,000 in its campaign for victims and communities in Nepal

More than 360 people have reportedly lost their lives in the flash floods that tore through Nepal on 26 Aug.

Unfortunately, an even higher number have been reported missing following the sudden disaster.

In support of the ongoing response efforts, Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is pledging S$50,000 in humanitarian aid.

The funds will be used to support the victims and families affected by the devastating catastrophe.

The SRC has also urged the public to join its fundraising campaign to support the affected communities.

Singapore Red Cross is raising S$500,000 for the Nepal flood victims

The campaign, hosted on the Give.Asia platform, has a target of S$500,000.

At the time of writing, more than S$80,000 has been raised.

All donations will go towards humanitarian assistance, including search and rescue operations, emergency medical care, and rapid assessments of humanitarian needs.

Preparing a rescue team in case of further flooding

SRC noted that the flood has critically damaged important infrastructure, making it tougher to reach remaining communities.

There are warnings of further flooding and the extent of the devastation might still grow.

Thus, SRC is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to deploy a team to support partners on-site.

“Over a thousand people are missing, many thousands of families are affected, and livelihoods have been severely disrupted,” said Secretary-General and CEO of Singapore Red Cross Benjamin William.
