Python swallows Eunos community cat before regurgitating it, snake removed from scene

Python swallows Eunos community cat before regurgitating it

A python with a bloated stomach was recently spotted at the foot of an Eunos HDB block.

Turns out, the snake had swallowed a community cat — it later regurgitated the feline.

National Parks Board (NParks) officers were alerted to the incident, and have removed the python from the scene.

Python had swallowed the community cat

According to a post in the Singapore Wildlife Sightings Facebook group, the reptile was spotted at about 7.30am on Friday (6 Dec).

Residents nearby speculated that the bloated snake had swallowed a community cat.

Mr How Choon Beng, Wildlife Management Group Director at the National Parks Board (NParks), said they were alerted about the python at 12 Eunos Crescent on Friday (6 Dec).

He confirmed that the python had indeed swallowed a cat, but subsequently regurgitated it.

The two-metre-long serpent was later transferred to Mandai Wildlife Group.

“If deemed suitable, it will be released in a forested area away from human dwellings,” he said.

Mr How took the opportunity to advise members of the public on what they should do should they encounter a snake.

“If members of the public encounter a snake in a public area, they should stay calm and back away slowly, giving it space to retreat,” he also said. He urged people to leave snakes alone and not approach them,” said Mr How.

Members of the public can contact NParks through its helpline at 1800-476-1600 for assistance.

Similar incident allegedly happened nearby

Another netizen also chimed in on the post, claiming this wasn’t the first time a python had swallowed a community cat in the area.

She claimed that three weeks ago, a python sporting a similar bloat was spotted near Paya Lebar MRT Station. She suspects the serpent was responsible for one of the community cats that had gone missing for about a month.

She added that another cat had also gone missing earlier in the year.
